I hate blogs

Sometimes blogs are just reminders of things I need to write but I never do.  Like I need that.

Seminary and Life

Recently I decided to go to seminary in order to receive the necessary training to be a teaching elder in the PCA.  For some, that's the hardest part of the process.  For me, that was the relatively easy part.  I've always possessed an interest in the pastoral ministry.  In some way, you could say that I've always known this is the decision I would end up making.  I have a sincere and deep desire to preach God's Word.  That part makes me happy.  The not so great part is figuring out how to make seminary a reality.

I often remind myself that a lot or even most seminary students are most likely similar to me; they are married with children and are currently working full time in another vocation.  Throw in the mortgage and we're up to speed.  So somehow, I need to secure a full-time job in another city that will allow me to attend lectures during the day.  Maybe second shift work?  Full-time due to providing for my family and not to mention...health insurance.  At least that's good and cheap nowadays. (Removing tongue from cheek) Believe me, I'm trying not to commit the sin of worry.  Yet, this is simply a lot to think about and actions have to be taken.

There are other things that keep me here as well.  I currently serve as a ruling elder in my local congregation.  Once I resolved to be a teaching elder, my zeal has pressed me all the more towards ministering in the here and now.  I want to take my current duties as a ruling elder and press on to an even more involved ministry under the instruction of my pastor.  My mind is of the opinion that it would be beneficial for me to focus immediately on ministering in the ways that I can now and work on my education for ordination as I go.  That leaves me with the distance education option.

To be continued...
